Welcome! This is Jailbait in Hotpants! The title is a phrase I used to describe Nightwing's former career as Robin. I am a relatively new comics reader, and as I go along sometimes I read things too hilarious or awesome to not share. So I share them with you, and hope you enjoy!

Damien and Supergirl?

This is from Superman/Batman 77. The Dick!Batman and Damien!Robin relationship is starting to grow on me. I thought Damien was really annoying at first, but I've come to like him and Dick's dynamic. I hope I still enjoy the characters now that Bruce is back in the cowl. We'll just have to wait and see. For now, enjoy a little teasing at Damien's expense.

Yay! I think I've figured out how to direct link the images again so you don't have to click an obnoxious text link! It'll take me a while to go back and do older posts though, so be patient!

Kid Kyle

The next few posts are going to be from Young Justice: Sins of Youth. It's a cute 12 part story in which the Justice League become teenagers, the JSA become kids, and Young Justice become adults. The original members of the Teen Titans are unaffected. This all happens to help the adults better understand the teen superheroes whom had been getting a bad rap recently. It's full of hilarity and I highly recommend taking a look. All of my posts are going to be from Young Justice - Sins of Youth #4.

Kyle Rayner is fun to watch in this series. His Green Lantern costume changes every panel you see him. It's done well and I didn't even notice it at first. It's a fun way of showing how his personality manifests as a teenager. Unfortunately for him, the rest of the Justice League doesn't think it's that big of a change. Poor Kyle.

Buttlering

I love it when Alfred makes fun of Bruce in that totally sincere buttlery way of his. It's very Jeeves and Wooster..... if Wooster were a bad-ass-slightly-crazy vigilante rather than charmingly incompetent.

Bat Hamlet

This is from Batman 982. In a flashback-ish thing, DG Robin is telling Batman that Alfred is having him read Hamlet and how it made him wonder what would have happened if Hamlet had dressed as Batman to get revenge. The result is this one panel of hilarity that I call Bat!Hamlet!

Plastic Man is concerned

I love reading crossovers and team-ups. Why? Because seeing heroes interact with each other and respond to crazy hijinks usually leads to a good time. You also get insights into characters that you wouldn't in their solo titles because the commentary is coming from characters that they don't usually interact with. Todays hilarious example of this comes from "Formerly Known as the Justice League #06". The entire book is hilarious in of itself, and the Supper Buddies are quite an amusing hero team. But the gem that I pulled out is from when the Justice League comes in to help save the Supper Buddies from a huge mess they've gotten themselves into. The real treat on this page is the bottom right hand corner, but it's made funnier by reading the whole thing. Enjoy!

Communication FAIL

I recently read "Not Just The Justice League" and plan on doing a few posts from that as soon as I can scan some of the pages in. In the meantime, enjoy more Teen Titans!

Today's post comes from Teen Titans Year One #6. Batman is terrible at communicating his feelings, and we all laugh at his ineptitude.

Even superheroes go through puberty

Poor Wally. If being a superhero weren't tough enough, you also have to deal with zits.
I think his face when he discovers the zit is priceless. Another thing teen heroes have to deal with.... mothers!

Beware the Chibis!

Today's post is from Superman/Batman 51..... and it's a doozy. If I were you, I'd look at these first two images, and then come back and read the rest of this post. Because otherwise you might be too afraid to.

That's right, in this particular issue, Superman and Batman are confronted with a chibi Justice League. And if that weren't bad enough, they really are supper innocent and.... well..... child-friendly. Just check out the origin stories of Chibi Supes and Bats.

I don't even know what to say to that. "Two shoves, and nothing was the same again." Also, sending Superman away so he wouldn't get rained on..... I think I echo Alfred's feelings on this one.

I feel that this is the inevitable result of the slipery slope that things like "Superhero Squad" and "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" have set us on. SAVE OUR HEROES FROM CHIBIFICATION!

On a completely random note, I also made a motivational poster featuring Robin and his adoring fangirls.

So in conclusion, thank you Michael Green and Mike Johnson for writing this hilarious hilarious atrocity. It made my day.

Lame

I am sure many of us have frequently echoed the sentiments of young Robin here. I'm just glad someone in cannon finally said it.

From Robin Year One vol 2.

She's got everyone's number

With all the Superman saves and the horrible Lois Lane comic book series back in the day, sometimes it's easy to forget that Lois Lane is a b.a.m.f. For serious. Nothing demonstrates it better than her role in the New Krypton plot arcs where she's going to report the truth in spite of death threats and her own father being at the forefront of the anti-Kryptonian agenda. Also, woman is like Batman when it comes to finding shit out about people. For serious. This page from Action Comics 887 has a great Lois line that sums it all up.

Code Black

Woah! Long time no post! Been a bit busy, but I'm finally catching up with my comic book reading. And you know what that means? More hilarity for you! The reader!

Today's excerpt is from Superman/Batman #72.
I just love that Lexcorp has a code for "Oh Shit, Batman's in Metropolis" and that they have a special protocol for it. Lex doesn't take shit from a superpowered alien, but he's clearly afraid of a dude in a bat suit finding out about any of his ops so much so that he shuts them all down down.

Not that Batman's just any dude in a bat suit. He's one b.a.m.f. But still....

[edit] I'm having trouble with Blogger's images. It used to let me upload them full size and then just post thumbnails, but it's not anymore. hrm..... So I'm including a thumbnail and then a txt link to the fullview image below. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Trinity Monologue

This is the text for the first 10 pages or so of the comic "Trinity" which details Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman's first team-up. When I first read this, I thought, "Wow, I'd love to see this read as a monologue. It would be really interesting." So I copied it down in the hopes that there might be an opportunity at Grinnell, which there wasn't. So now I'm sharing it with all of you, and maybe one of you will be inspired to perform it. If so, let me know! I'd love to come watch! Also, just let me know what you think. I'd love to hear someone else's thoughts on this piece, especially since I've got it in prose form here, but not in the context of the pictures.

Trinity by Matt Wagner

Opening monologue

Metropolis... where the trains always run on time. I try to miss one at least three times a week. Good for the image. Aboard the train, the regulars all chuckle at the guy they've dubbed “terminally late.” I fight the urge to listen any further. Which is really the hardest power to resist. Far easier to avert one's gaze. Not peek into everything. So much harder not to listen. But try as I might, there's one sound I can never block out.

It takes precious moments to locate the target. Amid the cacophony of city sounds, I listen hard for what seems out of order. The train gathers speed as it thunders over third avenue. The driver's been shot.

Ahead, a sharp curve. Much too fast. Never make the turn. Now, of course, I hear every frightened gasp, every stuttering scream. The train's momentum is enormous. Hope this works.

There's really no handbook for how to deal with such situations. Try to pull its lurching mass into the curve.

Didn't work.

Shrieking metal drowns out the passengers. Must...catch...that... train.

As always, one thought drives me onward. Compels both my crusade and masquerade. The idea that disaster can be averted. Holy cow this is heavy!

The passengers are shaken, but alive. Rescue teams can handle it now. The shot's trajectory leads, here. But the sniper's long gone. Without a trace. “Faster than a speeding bullet?” Not this time.

The Power of Powergirl

Today's gem comes from Superman & Batman 49. Supes and Bats had to get this tech-wiz Japanese kid (aka the new good-guy toyman) to help them clean up kryptonite dust from the atmostphere so Superman could, ya know, live on Earth and all. And what did he ask for in return? A date with Powergirl. Lolz.
For those of you who don't recall, the movie Bruce's going to see in the first page is the one they were making way back here: To The Mooooooon!

Let the Kryptonian Win

In this gem from Justice League Unlimited 19, Booster Gold was whining about how Superman always wins at poker. Superman then proceeds to be full of awesome and general ass-kickery in a fight with the big bad guys following which Booster Gold learns a valuable lesson.
You ALWAYS let the ridiculously superpowered Krypotnian win. I'm also highly amused by the implication that Superman might just not take that hit for you if you beat him. Who knew Superman was such a poor looser? Oh yea, these guys.

Green Lantern Graffiti

Today's humorous moment comes from JLU 32. Now, the majority of this issue told me one thing: Guy Gardner is a whiny annoying little know-it all punk who needs to grow up badly. Now, to be fair, this is not main series cannon, so for all I know, he could be completely different in the main comics. But as it stands now, Guy Gardner can die in a hole - John Stewart and Kyle Rayner are the lanterns for me!

But, he did do one thing that endeared him to me slightly. And that is using his ring to graffiti on the walls of Darkseid's pallace. Why? For funsies. And seriously, pissing off a being of that kind of power in such a juvinile and hillarious way deserves major props.

Richie Rich

Some days I wonder, could there be a Batman without Bruce being ridiculously wealthy? Then I see moments like this and realize, no, there really couldn't. And if there were, he wouldn't be nearly as awesome.

Lois Almost Figures it Out

As promised, today's hilarious moment is from the tail end of Superman/Batman Annual 1. I would say there are spoilers.... but really, the issue has so much randomness that you'd have to try really hard to spoil anything. That and I'm not sure this issue is official DC cannon anyway. At any rate, on to hilarity!
Poor Lois. You would have figured it out if it weren't for those pesky superpowers! I almost feel bad for Bruce getting a superspeed costume change, but then I feel more bad for us readers that we didn't get to see it. How many of you want to bet that Supes copped a feel at Mach 4? And Bruce isn't really objecting. More stating the obvious. Worlds' greatest detective that one.

Awkward Hilarity

So, today's post is going to be a two parter with tomorrow's post. Both funny moments come from the Superman/Batman Annual 1. This chronicles Superman and Batman's first team up/ meeting each others' secret identities for the first time. I don't think this particular issue is cannon, but it's pretty hilarious anyway. Really, the entire issue is full of awesome comedic gold and random silly bizzare crack, which made it difficult to pick just one moment to share. So I picked two! One from the beginning, and one from the end (the end one you'll see tomorrow).
Oh Clark and Brucie, your awkward bro-we're-totally-straight-manly-men bed sharing moment is truly amusing. Especially since we all know you totally have the hots for each other. Fanfiction never lies right? But what's even more hilarious is the whole "how do I get the other guy to leave so I can secretly put on my spendex to do some super heroics" bit. I love how Bruce is eventually like "fuck this shit, tranqulizers time!" The realization of identities followed by property destruction just seals the deal for me. What a great issue.

Deadly Disco

This has got to be one of the best combinations of the green lantern ring and kryptonite I have ever seen. And they say John Stewart* isn't creative with his power ring! Bah!

Scan from Justice League Unlimited 34

* I am of course talking about the TV series John Stewart who was a marine and not comic John Stewart who was an architect.
